Current Fighter Rankings – Introduction

Over the next weeks, I plan on developing my fighter rankings for all major MMA weight classes.  This includes seven weight classes for the men and two for the women.  Once they’re complete, you can find these rankings in the drop down at the top of the page.  I will try to update rankings after all Strikeforce, UFC, Bellator, and DREAM events, as well as any other noteworthy event.

My decisions will be based on my own judgment.  Fairly arbitrary, I know.  But this is my site, so we play by my rules.  I’m not going to do anything stupid like call Randy Couture a top ten fighter or keep Jon Jones and Ryan Bader off my rankings – I’ve seen too much of that shit at other MMA sites.  I’ll take a fair look at the top fighters in the world to determine who is the best of the best.

One thing I won’t do with my rankings is keep one fighter ranked at multiple weight classes.  B.J. Penn is a stellar lightweight, but right now, he’s just a welterweight in my book.  Anderson Silva may have a couple of good wins at light heavyweight, but he’s the middleweight champion of the world and that’s where he’ll be ranked.  I’ll track movement between weight classes as best as I can when updating rankings.

You’ll find the most up-to-date rankings at the dedicated pages while I’ll try to keep previous iterations archived.  With big UFC and Strikeforce events upcoming, I’ll try to have all rankings completed by the end of this coming weekend.
