MMA News – February 8, 2011

  • Kenny Florian decides to move down to featherweight, immediately becoming a top contender for Jose Aldo’s belt.  This is definitely the fastest way to a title shot, but it’s also an effective way to guarantee a beating from Jose Aldo.
  • Dan Henderson could have been in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix.  The current field of eight is fantastic, but imagine substituting Henderson in for Rogers or Kharitonov.  That would have added a whole new level of intrigue to this tournament.  A 16 man field also would have been fun, but that really would have diluted the tournament.  Then again, it may have been nice to see Bobby Lashley get pounded by Josh Barnett or Fedor.
  • Jorge Santiago has been let go by Sengoku, which is definitely not a sign that the company is doing poorly.  Santiago would fit nicely in Bellator or Strikeforce and create a number of fun fights.  Santiago vs. “Jacare” comes to mind.
