MMA News – February 25, 2011

  • Paul Daley missed weight for his Saturday fight at BAMMA against Yuya Shirai, making their fight a non-title fight.  Paul Daley misses weight in about half of his fights, so I’m not sure if welterweight is the best weight for him.  I guess it’s just easier to bully smaller fighters after the bell.
  • A March fight between Erik Koch and Cub Swanson has been canceled due to an injury to Swanson.  The transition for the WEC fighters to the UFC hasn’t been very smooth, given injuries to Swanson, Jose Aldo, and Dominick Cruz.  It’s great having the lighter weights in the UFC, but I’m very anxious for more of the top fighters to see action.
  • Gegard Mousasi vs. Roger Gracie could be a very interesting fight, but is Gracie ready for that?  He looked very impressive against Trevor Prangley, but I worry that a more polished fighter like Mousasi would be bad.  Then again, Gracie’s grappling might be enough to carry him and this could be a very popular fight.  I think Mike Kyle is a better opponent for Gracie, while Mousasi and Ovince St. Preux would be a great fight.
