Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson Results

Light Heavyweight Title: Dan Henderson d. (c) Rafael Cavalcante (TKO – Round 3, 0:50)

Dan Henderson was in large part able to avoid Feijao’s dangerous striking and score the TKO victory fairly quickly in the third round.  Henderson wisely utilized the clinch to keep Feijao from doing any damage, and he landed a few takedowns as well.  Henderson looked impressive in claiming the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Title.

Henderson has a few possible opponents in place, with King Mo or the winner of Gegard Mousasi/Mike Kyle as the likely challengers.  Feijao might get another crack at King Mo if he doesn’t get the first shot against Henderson.

Women’s Welterweight Title: (c) Marloes Coenen d. Liz Carmouche (Submission – Round 4, 1:29)

Liz Carmouche looked primed to take the Strikeforce 135 lbs. Title from Marloes Coenen, but the champion was able to turn the tides and submit her opponent in the fourth round.  Carmouche looked very impressive, scoring takedowns and using some ground and pound to neutralize her opponent’s dangerous submission abilities.  Carmouche did damage, but in the end, Marloes Coenen is just too good.

Coenen will likely go on to fight Miesha Tate, while Carmouche should see a more permanent step up in competition.  Sarah Kaufman might be a good fight for Carmouche.

Middleweight: Tim Kennedy d. Melvin Manhoef (Submission – Round 1, 3:41)

Manhoef looked good for the limited amount of time that these two were standing.  Kennedy quickly and wisely took Manhoef down and took the submission victory.  Manhoef was almost able to defend the single takedown attempt, but Kennedy leveraged Manhoef down and the fight was pretty much over for there.

Kennedy said he’d like to fight Robbie Lawler or Jacare Souza next, which are basically the only two fights you can make.  Short of bringing in Hector Lombard or Mamed Khalidov, the Strikeforce middleweight division basically consists of three men.

Lightweight: Jorge Masvidal d. Billy Evangelista (Unanimous Decision)

Masvidal was the far superior fighter, as he completely dominated Evangelista.  Most of the fight was spent with Masvidal picking apart his previously undefeated opponent with a constant barrage of accurate strikes.  Evangelista’s striking was completely telegraphed, as it looked like he never even had a chance.

Welterweight: Roger Bowling d. Josh Thornburg (Unanimous Decision)

Lightweight: Jorge Gurgel d. Billy Vaughan (Submission – Round 1, 0:44)

Heavyweight: Jason Freeman d. Jason Riley (Submission – Round 1, 1:52)

Middleweight: Brian Rogers d. Ian Rammel (TKO – Round 1, 4:23)

Middleweight: Mitch Whitesel d. Marc Cofer (Submission – Round 1, 3:55)

Welterweight: John Kuhner d. J.P. Felty (Submission – Round 2, 4:31)
