Catchweight (137 lbs.) Joe Warren d. Marcos Galvao (Unanimous Decision)

This was a perplexing decision as it seemed that Marcos Galvao had won the fight.  Galvao was the more active, effective fighters for the first two rounds, while the third round was clearly in Joe Warren’s favor.  Somehow, Warren won the decision from all three judges, including a preposterous 30-27 scorecard.  I’m hoping that Galvao gets a tournament berth at 135 or 145 based on his performance last night.  Meanwhile, I don’t feel good about Warren’s chances against either Featherweight Tournament Finalist.

Bantamweight: Zach Makovsky d. Chad Robichaux (TKO – Round 3, 2:02)

This turned out to be a fun fight with a lot of good grappling with Bantamweight Champion Zach Makovsky prevailing in the end.  Chad Robichaux attempted some funky offense and kept up with Makovsky’s grappling, but he ended up getting hit pretty hard when Makovsky took a dominant position on the mat.  Makovsky’s TKO win was the first of his career and showed that Makovsky is really working hard to improve in all aspects of MMA.

Featherweight Tournament Semifinals: Daniel Straus d. Kenny Foster (Submission – Round 3, 3:48)

Daniel Straus was all over Kenny Foster and took a hard earned submission victory late in third round.  Foster looked a lot more tense and tentative than Straus, who has now won twelve consecutive fights.  He’ll look for his thirteenth in a row in the Featherweight Tournament S=semifinals.

Featherweight Tournament Semifinals: Patricio Freire d. Wilson Reis (KO – Round 3, 3:29)

This was definitely the most impressive win of the night.  Freire seemed to be getting the best of a very, very close fight, but took the decision out of the judges’ hands by brutally knocking out top 25 featherweight Wilson Reis.  Freire landed a half dozen unanswered punches that did some major damage to Reis and dropped him to the mat.  Freire will fight Daniel Straus in the Featherweight Tournament finals and will likely be the favorite in that fight.

Heavyweight: Carlos Flores d. Rudy Aguilar (TKO – Round 1, 1:19)

Bantamweight: Anthony Birchak d. Tyler Bialecki (Submission – Round 1, 4:06)

Featherweight: Nick Piedmont d. Michael Parker (Split Decision)

Middleweight: Brendan Tierney d. Dano Moore (Submission – Round 1, 0:49)
