MMA News – July 1, 2011

  • Two big women’s fights have been announced for Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson.  Julie Kedzie will take on Alexis Davis and Ronda Rousey will fight Sarah D’Alelio.  I am really thrilled that this event will feature three great women’s fights.  After going through July’s upcoming fights, I have to say that this month might be the biggest in recent women’s MMA history.  I might write a longer piece on it in the next week, but I’m so excited for what’s ahead of us in July.
  • The UFC is looking to hold an event in Japan sometime in 2011.  It’s no surprise given the recent international expansion of the UFC, but Japan has always presented logistical issues for American promotions.  The strength of JMMA has been fading as of late so it seems like it’s time for the UFC to finally make it’s move into Japan.
  • All fighters made weight for tomorrow’s UFC 132 event.  Keep your eyes peeled for my full preview tomorrow morning, where I’ll preview all of the main fights.  I’ll also take a deep look at what we can expect as far as Tito Ortiz excuses once he is destroyed by Ryan Bader.
