Favorite Tweet Ever

November 10, 2011 1 comment

Fitting that after my discussion about Twitter with Mike Fagan, I’m treated to this Tweet from moments ago.

It’s been years since these two feuded, but it’s very sweet to see this.  I love a good rivalry, but I’m also a sap for two old opponents being pals.  The same goes for Penn and Matt Hughes, who now seem to get along quite famously.  Looking back, it’s amazing the personalities we saw enter into grudges like Tito and Ken Shamrock, Tito and Chuck, Randy and Chuck, B.J. vs. Hughes and Penn, and so many more.  Perhaps that was born out of necessity more than anything else, since the guys at the top generally stayed static in the early and mid-aughts.

But yes, I demand more MMA rivals of today and yesterday Tweet at each other.  Does Kazushi Sakuraba have a Twitter account where he just posts funny pictures and comments about the hundreds of Gracies that seem to be floating around nowadays?

*UPDATE*

And Jens’ response.  Aww.

Ugh, Kendall Grove? Really

October 31, 2011 6 comments

Okay, I’m not a huge fan of the Kardashian’s.  Kim is aesthetically pleasing, but I could take or leave the others.  But this comment from Kendall Grove seems especially mean spirited.  As a soon to be divorced gentleman, I know that it can’t be fun regardless of the circumstances – I’m just glad I’m not famous.

So I stopped and thought, ‘wait a minute – why do I follow Kendall Grove?’  Frankly, I don’t even like Kendall Grove.  He’s not even a relevant fighter anymore so what merit is there to follow such a buffoon?  I’m not a card-carrying member of “Team Dagger”, mostly because I have too many brain cells in place to qualify for membership.

This is all a blessing since it means I no longer have to follow Kendall Grove!  Otherwise, he would have spent who knows how long sitting on the list of people I follow.  Good riddance.

Bellator and I have different ideas of the sweet submission from this week.  I think I’m more correct, just watch the replay!

Twitter is good, Twitter is great

October 24, 2011 1 comment

So I didn’t get a direct message from Chael Sonnen this week.  That is bad.  I also didn’t get a reply from MC Hammer, despite my best efforts.  I Tweeted him in the wee hours and failed to get a reply.  Ultimately, my goal is to get some words from the legend.

So I didn’t sleep at all Thursday into Friday on account of waking up very late Thursday.  I used this time to productively work on my UFC Ultimate Brazil write-up and had some fun on Twitter.  Here’s the result.

Gotta love the response from Sarah D’Alelio, if only for her awesome post-fight reply after the phantom verbal tap against Ronda Rousey.  Pedro Rizzo gave me a nice retweet during my Ultimate Brazil write-up and Kenny Florian confirmed that his early morning activity was waking up and not from staying up late.  You know, like most normal adults.

I should note that I got an Ultimate Brazil reply from Pat Miletich, saying only “Lol”.  I have no clue why I wasn’t alerted via e-mail, so I guess this means I need to check my mentions more awesome.

Maybe I should change the name of this feature to “Hey look, the guy from Fight Rankings is totally dropping names”.

Why I Love Twitter

October 18, 2011 6 comments

I wasn’t going to post anything so late after the great tattooing of 2011, but this couldn’t wait.  Absolutely could not.  To anyone who shuns Twitter and tries to avoid it like the plague, just remember that anything is possible.

What did the great Chael have to say to me?  We’ll that’s between me and him, mostly because I don’t want to betray his confidence and end up the subject of terribly stinging Tweets.  I would somehow frame this if possible, so I guess this post is the internet equivalent of that.  Now I just have to somehow become the one guy that Chael follows.

Also, I will be posting the weekly fights tomorrow as I am very, very tired right now.  And lazy.  Mostly tired.

What are Sundays for?

The above comments, completely independent from one another, were captured earlier today on Twitter.  I think I side with John Alessio on this one, since I don’t go to church and do watch football and eat badly on occasion.  Hector Lombard must not be much of a football fan.

Best News Ever

September 12, 2011 4 comments

You know, I’m extremely proud with how this blog has come along so far.  I’ve written some fun pieces, made some good connections, and have really had a great time immersing myself in the world of MMA.  I have more than 21,000 views since January 2011 and am gradually amassing followers on the Fight Rankings Twitter page.  But this?  Perhaps the best news in the history of Fight Rankings.

I don’t care that he follows more people than he has followers and I don’t care that he hasn’t won a fight since 2007.  “Big Daddy” Gary Goodridge is now following me on Twitter.  Going through the early PRIDE and UFC events, there’s really no other fighter like Gary Goodridge.  Goodridge was an explosive striker with a bad attitude and tremendous arm wrestling skills.  And now the man is following me on Twitter.

There are certain pivotal moments in your life that you use to measure time.  You remember life before and after 9/11, the Kennedy Assassination, or more personal milestones like marriage or birthdays.  For me, I will always look back at life before Gary Goodridge followed me on Twitter as a good time that was missing a certain something.  Life with Gary Goodridge as a Twitter follower is a time full of promise and hope, of infinite possibility.

I just wait for the day that Harold Howard gets out of jail, learns to use a computer, catches up to the social networking craze, and follows me.  I think I might throw a fucking party.
